Sun Salutations - What are they are why do we do them?

ree

Sun Salutation, translates in Sanskrit to Surya Namaskara. A sun salutation is a series of Yoga postures, with each posture combined with the inhale or exhale. Sun salutations create a steady and stable build of energy (prana) in the body.

Sun salutations create the strong foundation of any Vinyasa Flow Yoga Class. Your teacher may begin the class with a number. of traditional sun salutations, i.e. Sun Salutation A or B (most widely associated with the Ashtanga style of yoga), or they may intersperse the sun salutations throughout the yoga class, using them as the building blocks for the flow and transitioning from one set of yoga postures to the next.

Sun salutations are a great set of yoga postures for beginners to learn, and it also equally beneficial for intermediate and advanced practitioners to refine their Sun salutations over time, building more strength, stability and flexibility in their Sun salutation flow.

If you want to experience and practice Sun Salutations as part of a group Vinyasa Yoga Class, you can book a spot on an upcoming class here.
